Army denies hand in teen's death - Hindustan Times

The army on Monday continued to deny the involvement of its personnel in the shooting death of a 13-year-old boy here, even as Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa ordered a CB-CID probe into the case. Dilshan was shot in the head, allegedly by an army jawan, when he and three others reportedly trespassed on army residential premises behind Fort St George to pluck almonds on Sunday. The post-mortem report indicated the bullet was fired from a range of 15-20 feet.

An army statement said “there was no armed guard at the compound at any time”. An army official who did not want to be named said security duties at the residential quarters were outsourced to a private firm.

In Delhi, army vice-chief Lt Gen AS Lamba said, “The army is also conducting its own inquiry... We are fully cooperating with the civil police.”

R Sekar, additional director general of police, CB-CID, said: “We are seeking expert opinion on where the bullet could have been fired from, and the weapon.”

Dilshan was cremated on Monday morning.
